The Wetlands Alliance sees this as a good opportunity to address climate change through improving the productivity and resilience of wetlands affected by small water management structures (< 6 m height). This project aimed to complete a proof-of-concept study to demonstrate the benefits of fishway construction for floodplain fish species of central Laos. This can become a great tool for increasing resilience to climate change impact by improving the productivity and biodiversity of wetlands impacted by small water management structures.

The Alliance has encouraged a parallel initiative by the partners in NE Thailand and will cooperate with the next phase of the ACIAR project, starting in 2010.
