Dear WA Subscribers,
It has been a while since the last newsletter due to holidays in July, but we are now picking up from where we left.
In the past few months we have continued the work to further the
engagement in Myanmar. We are now ready to move into the next stage
where some partners will visit a number of field sites in the so called
Dry Zone in central Myanmar and the delta area south of Yangon, the two
areas targeted for our start-up activities. More on this issue will be
provided in the coming months.
We participated in The Second Regional Forum for People and Forests,
organised by the Royal Forest Department of Thailand and Regional
Community Forestry Training Center (RECOFTC) in Bangkok. The Forum aimed
to review the progress in community forestry and identify the critical
issues ahead. The forum focused on further expansion of people-centred
forestry in the years ahead.
In Chennai, India, we attended a Programme on Social Entrepreneurship
organised by Hand in Hand. The programme was facilitated by Professor
Kasturi Rangan who is a co-chairman of the Harvard Business School's
Social Enterprise Initiative. We plan to continue our collaboration with
Hand in Hand for the benefit of the alliance partners, especially in
the areas of establishing Community Based Organisations and
microfinance, areas where Hand in Hand has a very strong track record.
We also signed a contract with FAO for the Wetlands Alliance to support
the transboundary cooperation between Thailand and Myanmar under the Bay
of Bengal Large Marine Ecosystem Programme.
Finally, during August I begun a set of trips to visit all partners in
the preparation for the upcoming evaluation of the Alliance planned for
October 2011.
I wish you a pleasant month ahead.
Best Regards,
Hans Guttman
