The BoBLME Programme has engaged the Alliance to help implementing a “Joint Myanmar-Thailand Management initiative for the Mergui/Myeik Archipelago”. To this end the FAO provides funding to the Alliance partners to work with the Department of Fisheries of Thailand and Myanmar and other relevant stakeholders in the area, through a contract signed in August 2011.

The initial cooperation is until the end of 2011, but it is envisaged that the BoBLME will continue to support the Alliance in engaging and facilitate the transboundary cooperation.
The engagement will begin by addressing 7 activities:
- Implementing the collaborative Management Structure
- Resource use and users profiling
- Data collection and research
- Investigating alternative livelihoods interventions
- Capacity Development - cross-site visits/learning
- Capacity Building and Implementation through business plan development
- Identifying management parameters to be monitored
The cooperation is an important step in the Alliance providing support to Dialogue partners, such as FAO. It is hoped that this cooperation will expand in scope during 2012 and 2013.
