Dr. Pollard from AWARD in South Africa is visiting the Wetlands Alliance to learn and share experiences

Dr. Sharon Pollard from the Association for Water & Rural Development (AWARD), a NGO in South Africa, is visiting the Alliance during her short sabbatical. She is exploring the role of community-based action research processes in South East Asia and the Wise Use of Wetlands programme in South Africa and the potential for practitioner networks.

Specifically, she hopes to deepen understanding on community-led-research processes for building adaptive capacity for freshwater resources management, and finding opportunities to join such research initiatives in the field so that we can discuss, co-learn and collaborate. She is also keen to explore opportunities to build a partnership/ network between researchers and practitioners in South Africa and South East Asia.

Some of you have already been in contact with Sharon, who is based at AIT where CORIN-Asia has provided office space and the Alliance Secretariat is providing some logistical support, others may want to do so whilst she is in the region.

Dr. Pollard and her family will be here, and travel in the region, until mid-July 2011. You may check up the work AWARD is involved in at www.award.org.za and contact Sharon directly at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
